Soft Homemade Mini Baguettes with a tender crumb and lightly crisp crust. Easy to make at home, perfect for sandwiches, breakfast, or as a side with meals.

Ingredients:

  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 3/4 cup sparkling water
  • 1 1/4 tsp active dry yeast (about 1/2 packet)
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 1/2 – 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 egg + 1 tbsp milk for brushing

Instructions:

In a small bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit 5–10 minutes until foamy.

In a large mixing bowl, combine sparkling water, salt, and the yeast mixture. Gradually add flour until a soft, slightly sticky dough forms.

Knead the dough 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Cover and let rise 30 minutes until slightly puffy.

Divide the dough into 4 portions. Roll each portion into a thin rectangle, then roll up into a log shape to resemble a small baguette.

Place the logs on a parchment-lined baking sheet, cover, and let rise another 30 minutes.

Preheat oven to 410°F (210°C). Beat egg with 1 tablespoon milk and brush over the tops.

Bake for 18–22 minutes until golden brown and lightly crisp on the outside. Cool slightly before serving.

Tips:

For extra flavor, sprinkle sesame seeds or coarse salt before baking.

Serve with soups, sandwiches, or as a side with butter and jam.

Dough can be made a day ahead and refrigerated for a slower rise to develop flavor.
