Soft and buttery swirl rolls with a sweet milk glaze. Perfect for breakfast, brunch, or dessert, these homemade rolls are rich, tender, and easy to make.

Ingredients – Dough:

2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

2 large egg yolks

1 tbsp sugar

1/4 tsp salt

1 1/2 tsp active dry yeast

1/3 cup warm milk

Butter Layer:

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 tsp vanilla sugar or 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Milk Glaze:

1 cup milk, sweetened to taste (about 2 tbsp sugar)

Instructions:

In a small bowl, dissolve yeast with 1 tsp sugar in warm milk. Let it sit 5–10 minutes until foamy.

In a large bowl, combine flour, egg yolks, remaining sugar, salt, and yeast mixture. Knead until smooth and elastic. Cover and let rise 30–45 minutes.

Meanwhile, beat softened butter with vanilla sugar until creamy.

Roll dough into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick. Spread butter evenly over the dough.

Roll the dough into a log and cut into 12 equal pieces. Place the rolls cut-side down on a buttered baking sheet.

Bake at 350°F (180°C) for 25–30 minutes. When nearly baked, pour warm sweetened milk over each roll and return to oven for 3–5 minutes to lightly glaze.

Remove from oven and let cool slightly before serving.

Tips:

Do not substitute margarine for butter; it affects flavor and texture.

Add a sprinkle of cinnamon or nuts in the butter layer for extra flavor.

Serve warm for soft, buttery rolls that melt in your mouth.
