Italian immigrants brought pizza to America. The first pizzeria opened in New York City in 1905!
And here’s the story of the iconic Margherita pizza: Queen Margherita of Italy wanted to try a popular dish, so Naples’ top pizza maker created a pizza in the colors of the Italian flag—red tomato, white mozzarella, and green basil—and named it after her!
Fun fact: January 9 is International Pizza Day!
