Pinecones are a festive, crunchy, and sweet treat that’s perfect for holiday celebrations. Made with honey, sugar, margarine, and melted chocolate, they’re combined with cornflakes and your choice of nuts for a deliciously textured snack.
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup honey
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1 cup margarine
- 7 oz cooking chocolate (or semi-sweet chocolate)
- 3 cups cornflakes
- Chopped nuts (such as walnuts, raisins, hazelnuts, or peanuts)
Instructions:
- In a saucepan, melt the honey, sugar, and margarine together. Once it begins to boil, add the chocolate and stir until fully melted and smooth.
- Remove the pan from the heat and gently stir in the cornflakes and any other mix-ins (such as chopped nuts).
- To shape the mixture, use a lemon juicer (or any similar small tool) to form the cooled mixture into little cones. Place each “pinecone” on a flat surface and let them cool completely.
- Once cooled, place each pinecone into a small paper candy cup for serving.
Note:
Feel free to swap part of the cornflakes for puffed rice, barley, or wheat—just keep the total volume the same! I typically replace about 1 cup of cornflakes with the alternative ingredients.
