How to keep food fresh? Countless times it happens that we throw away some food, because it has gone bad from standing. To prevent this from happening, here are some practical tips.
Fresh spices
You can save the excess spices by chopping them and putting them in a glass jar, and then pouring olive or other high-quality oil over them. Later, if necessary, add to meals.
Fresh cheese
The best way to preserve fresh cheese is to turn it upside down together with the container it is in and put it in the fridge. In this way, a vacuum effect is created, which slows down the reproduction of bacteria.
Polenta flour and oatmeal
If you want to save flour from small insects that like to stay in it, take hot mint gum, wrap it in foil and put it in a bag with flour. Use the same method to store polenta and other grains where insects can be found.
Bread
If you want your bread to stay fresh and soft for as long as possible, without getting mold, put a celery leaf in the bag together with the bread.
Berry fruit
Berries like blueberries will last longer and stay fresher if you wash them with a special liquid after purchase. So, put two spoons of vinegar in a cup, rinse them and put them in the fridge.
Apples
If you have cut an apple into pieces and realized that you will not eat them, put them together next to each other in a circle and secure them with a rubber band so that only the skin is visible on the outside. This will slow down the browning of the apple.
Dried fruit
Store dried fruit in a tightly closed glass container in a cool place. In this way, it will stay soft and juicy longer.
Bananas
Wrap the top of the banana holding them together with clear plastic wrap. That way, they will last three to five days longer than usual, without spoiling. This trick is especially useful for organically grown bananas.
