Golden crispy onion rings stacked on a plate with dipping sauce, showing crunchy coating and perfectly fried texture.

These Crispy Fried Onion Rings are golden, crunchy, and incredibly addictive. Perfect as a side dish, appetizer, or snack, they’re so delicious that kids often prefer them over French fries. Serve them with burgers, grilled meats, or your favorite dipping sauce for the ultimate comfort food experience.

Ingredients

  • 2 large yellow onions, sliced into rings
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup plain breadcrumbs
  • 2 tablespoons sea salt
  • 2 teaspoons ground black pepper
  • 4–6 cups vegetable oil (for frying)

Instructions

  1. Separate the onion slices into rings and place them in a bowl. Pour milk over the rings and let them soak for 5–10 minutes. This helps soften the onions and gives them a milder flavor.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, breadcrumbs, salt, and black pepper.
  3. In a separate bowl, beat the eggs until smooth.
  4. Remove each onion ring from the milk. Dip it first into the beaten eggs, then coat it thoroughly in the flour and breadcrumb mixture. Press lightly to ensure an even coating.
  5. Heat vegetable oil in a deep pot or large skillet to 350°F (175°C).
  6. Carefully place onion rings into the hot oil using tongs. Fry for 2–3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crispy.
  7. Transfer to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
  8. Serve warm and enjoy immediately for maximum crispiness.
