Reiki is not magic, and it is not religion. It is a practice built on one simple idea: that the body is more than flesh and bone. Beneath what we can see, there is an energy system — call it the aura, the etheric field, or just the space where stress lives before it becomes pain. Reiki works there.

The name itself gives it away. Rei means universal. Ki means life force. You have heard this force before under different names. The Chinese call it Chi. In Sanskrit, it is Prana. Hawaiians know it as Mana. It is the current that keeps every living thing alive, from the breath in your lungs to the pulse in a tree. We are not machines with souls installed later. We are energy first, matter second. The physical body is just the part we can touch.

A Reiki practitioner does not heal you. They do not diagnose, manipulate, or force anything. What they do is simpler: they listen to energy, and they step aside. After training and attunement, a practitioner becomes a clear channel. They place their hands on or just above the body — along the head, the heart, the stomach, the feet — and energy moves where it is needed. Think of it like removing a kink from a hose. The water was always there. It just needed room to flow.

During a session, you might feel heat, coolness, tingling, or nothing at all. That is normal. The energy field is cleansed, blockages soften, and the body returns to its own natural rhythm. Emotional balance follows because the body and the energy field are not separate. What happens in one shows up in the other.

That is Reiki. Ancient in concept, simple in practice, and entirely unique to the person receiving it.
