Perfect for a quick weeknight dinner or a relaxed family meal, these juicy meatballs come with a simple mustard sauce that’s great over mashed potatoes, rice, or with crusty bread.
Ingredients:
- 1 lb ground meat (beef, pork, or a mix)
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- ⅓ cup sparkling water
- 3 medium onions, finely chopped
- 1 yellow bell pepper, diced
- 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
- ¾ cup water
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter or oil for sautéing
- Optional: a splash of heavy cream to finish the sauce
Instructions:
- In a mixing bowl, combine ground meat with salt and pepper. Stir in the sparkling water and let the mixture rest for 5–10 minutes.
- Shape the meat into small balls. In a large skillet, brown the meatballs over medium-high heat until golden on all sides. Transfer to a plate.
- In the same pan, melt the butter and sauté the onions until soft and lightly golden. Add the diced yellow bell pepper and cook for another 5 minutes.
- Return the meatballs to the skillet. Stir in the mustard and pour in the water. Cover and simmer over low heat for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add a splash of cream at the end if you prefer a richer sauce.
