Perfect for a quick weeknight dinner or a relaxed family meal, these juicy meatballs come with a simple mustard sauce that’s great over mashed potatoes, rice, or with crusty bread.

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb ground meat (beef, pork, or a mix)
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • ⅓ cup sparkling water
  • 3 medium onions, finely chopped
  • 1 yellow bell pepper, diced
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • ¾ cup water
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter or oil for sautéing
  • Optional: a splash of heavy cream to finish the sauce

Instructions:

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine ground meat with salt and pepper. Stir in the sparkling water and let the mixture rest for 5–10 minutes.
  2. Shape the meat into small balls. In a large skillet, brown the meatballs over medium-high heat until golden on all sides. Transfer to a plate.
  3. In the same pan, melt the butter and sauté the onions until soft and lightly golden. Add the diced yellow bell pepper and cook for another 5 minutes.
  4. Return the meatballs to the skillet. Stir in the mustard and pour in the water. Cover and simmer over low heat for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add a splash of cream at the end if you prefer a richer sauce.
