This classic no-bake dessert is rich, chewy, and full of dried fruit, nuts, and chocolate flavor. The trick is to soften the wafer sheets just right—then roll them up with a warm, aromatic filling.

Ingredients for the Filling:

  • 6 large eggs
  • 3 cups granulated sugar (about 600 g)
  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted margarine or butter, melted
  • 2 cups crushed walnuts (about 200 g)
  • 1 1/2 cups dried figs, chopped (about 250 g)
  • 1 1/2 cups raisins (about 250 g)
  • 4 1/2 cups crushed tea biscuits or graham crackers (about 450 g)
  • 4 oz (about 115 g) dark chocolate, melted

For the Wafer Sheets:

  • 1 package of 5 wafer sheets

Instructions:

Moisten a clean kitchen towel, place it over each wafer sheet, and let them soften for about 10 minutes so they can be rolled easily. Do this step first.

In a saucepan, whisk the eggs and sugar together. Add the melted margarine or butter and cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens slightly (do not boil).

Stir in the walnuts, figs, raisins, and crushed biscuits. Mix well, then fold in the melted chocolate. The mixture should be thick and spreadable.

Divide the filling evenly among the softened wafers—about 1/5 of the mixture per sheet. Spread it to the edges, then roll each sheet tightly into a log.

Wrap each roll in plastic wrap and refrigerate for a few hours or overnight. Slice into rounds before serving.
