A perfect appetizer for any party or casual snack, these Pizza Canapés Sandwiches are loaded with fresh ingredients like turkey ham, Gouda, mozzarella, and mushrooms. Topped with a mix of herbs and salsa, these mini pizzas are crispy, flavorful, and ideal for serving on the go.
Ingredients:
For the Dough:
- 1 1/3 cups water
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 2/3 cups all-purpose flour
- 7 oz rye flour
- 1/2 cup graham flour
- 1/4 cup wheat germ
- 3/4 packet dry yeast
For the Topping:
- Salsa with capers and basil (store-bought or homemade)
- Sliced turkey ham
- Gouda cheese (sliced)
- Mozzarella cheese (sliced)
- Fresh mushrooms (sliced)
- Fresh bell pepper (thinly sliced)
- Spring onions (chopped)
- Fresh herbs: oregano, basil, thyme
- Black olives (for garnish)
Instructions:
- Mix the water, salt, sugar, and olive oil in a large bowl. Add the flours, wheat germ, and dry yeast, then knead until smooth. Let the dough rise in a warm place until it doubles in size.
- Preheat your oven to 500°F (250°C). Roll out the dough onto a baking sheet to your desired thickness.
- Spread the salsa evenly over the dough. Layer with turkey ham, Gouda, mozzarella, mushrooms, bell pepper, and spring onions. Sprinkle with fresh oregano, basil, and thyme.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the dough is golden and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Allow the pizza to cool slightly, then slice into small canapé-sized sandwiches using a pizza cutter. Add sliced black olives for extra flavor and serve.
Note: Let the pizza cool slightly before slicing—this helps the toppings set and makes it easier to cut into perfect sandwich portions.
