Fasting Sweets are perfect for those who are observing a fast but still crave a sweet indulgence. From the chewy grape-inspired sweets to the rich praline cups and nutty citrus-flavored balls, these recipes offer delicious alternatives to traditional desserts.

Grape Sweets
Ingredients:

  • 200g Turkish delight (or marshmallow)
  • 200g crushed biscuits
  • 3 tablespoons of water
  • Dark chocolate (for coating)

Instructions:

  1. In a bowl, combine the crushed biscuits and water, mixing until you have a compact dough. Add the Turkish delight and blend well.
  2. Shape the mixture into 10 small sticks, similar in size to a cigarette.
  3. Melt the dark chocolate and, on a tray, arrange 4 of the sticks. Pour chocolate over and between them, gently pressing them together with your hands.
  4. Add 3 more sticks on top, coat them with chocolate, and repeat the process with 2 sticks, then finish with one stick.
  5. Once everything is assembled, pour the remaining chocolate over the top. Let the dessert set for at least one day before slicing.

Nutty Citrus Balls
Ingredients:

  • 1 jar of quince or fig jam
  • Crushed biscuits
  • Chopped walnuts
  • Zest of lemon or orange

Instructions:

  1. Strain the fruit from the jam in a fine sieve. If using quinces, leave them as is; if using figs, blend them into a smooth paste.
  2. Mix the jam with the crushed biscuits until the mixture holds together. Add chopped walnuts and the zest of lemon or orange.
  3. Shape the mixture into small balls and roll them in either crushed biscuits or additional chopped walnuts.
  4. Adjust the amount of biscuits depending on how much juice you’ve extracted from the fruit.

Praline Cups
Ingredients:

  • 250g sugar
  • 250g chopped walnuts
  • 250g margarine (or butter for a richer flavor)
  • 250g chocolate (for coating)

Instructions:

  1. Melt the sugar in a saucepan to create caramel, then stir in the walnuts until well-coated.
  2. Pour the caramel mixture into a greased metal tray to cool. Once cool, crush the caramel into smaller pieces using a pestle (or a rolling pin and a plastic bag if you don’t have a pestle).
  3. Melt the margarine and chocolate, then stir in the crushed caramel.
  4. Fill paper cupcake cups with the mixture, allowing them to set in the fridge. This recipe will make around 60 praline cups.

These fasting sweets offer a perfect balance of flavors and textures for anyone observing a fast, bringing a delightful and satisfying end to a meal or simply a treat to enjoy.
