Chocolate and citrus — two flavors that are classics on their own, but when combined, they create a surprisingly sophisticated dessert. These chocolate-orange mini cakes are rich, indulgent, and perfectly portioned, offering a moist center with a hint of tangy brightness. Ideal for brunch, a cozy afternoon treat, or a dinner party centerpiece, these cakes are proof that a simple flavor pairing can feel luxurious.

Serves: 6

Ingredients:

  • 5 oz dark chocolate (for melting)
  • 2 oz white chocolate (for garnish)
  • 5 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 medium orange (zest and juice)
  • Pinch of salt
  • Optional: 2 tsp finely chopped candied orange peel

Instructions:

  1. Melt Chocolate Base:
Break the dark chocolate into small pieces and melt with 4 tbsp butter over low heat. Stir in both sugars until smooth. Transfer to a mixing bowl to cool slightly.
  2. Mix Wet Ingredients:
Gradually beat in eggs one at a time into the warm chocolate mixture. Add 2 tbsp of flour and a pinch of salt. Stir in the orange zest and 2 tsp orange juice until fully combined.
  3. Prepare Molds:
Grease six 4-oz ramekins with butter and dust lightly with flour. Pour half of the chocolate batter into the ramekins. Optional: Add small chunks of white chocolate in the center of each cake. Pour the remaining batter over the top.
  4. Bake:
Preheat oven to 425°F. Bake for 12–14 minutes until the tops are set but centers remain soft and gooey.
  5. Cool and Serve:
Let cakes cool for 5 minutes in the molds before carefully removing. Garnish with candied orange peel if desired. Serve warm for maximum indulgence.
