This bread pie is an easy and tasty way to use leftover bread. Made with cottage cheese, eggs, and milk, it’s a comforting dish that’s perfect for any meal. Serve it warm with yogurt or buttermilk.
Ingredients
- 2 cups cottage cheese (or farmer’s cheese)
- ½ cup sour cream (optional)
- 3 eggs
- ½ tablespoon all-purpose flour
- ½ cup milk
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 6 cups day-old bread, cut into pieces (preferably slightly stale)
Instructions
- In a bowl, whisk together the cottage cheese, sour cream (if using), eggs, flour, milk, and salt until smooth.
- You can either layer the bread pieces and pour some of the cheese mixture over each layer in a greased baking pan, repeating until all bread and mixture are used, or mix the bread directly into the cheese mixture and pour everything at once into the pan.
- Bake at 430°F (220°C) until golden brown on top, about 25-30 minutes.
- Remove from oven, sprinkle lightly with water, and cover until warm but not hot.
- Serve with yogurt, buttermilk, or as preferred.
