This is a simple and tasty recipe for making baklava at home. The dough is made with basic ingredients like eggs, sugar, oil, and baking powder.

Ingredients for 10 sheets:

  • 3 eggs mixed with 10 tablespoons of sugar
  • Add 3 cups (2 dcl each) of oil and 2 yogurts
  • 3 packets of baking powder

Mix everything well.

Instructions:

  1. Place 2 sheets of dough at the bottom of the baking pan and spread the mixture over them.
  2. Continue layering one sheet at a time, spreading the mixture on each layer.
  3. When you reach the middle, add 150–200 g of ground walnuts.
    • Optional: Add 50–100 g of raisins as desired.
  4. Continue layering and spreading the mixture on the sheets until done.

For the syrup:

  • Boil 1/2 liter of water, 1/2 kg of sugar, the juice of 1 lemon, and 2 packets of vanilla sugar.
  • Pour the syrup over the baked baklava.

You can cut the baklava into pieces either before or after baking, depending on your preference.

Poppy Seed Baklava

Ingredients:

  • 200 g of ground poppy seeds
  • Boil with 1/2 liter of milk and 1 cup of sugar for a few minutes.
  • When slightly cooled, add 1 cup of oil, 1 packet of baking powder, and 1 packet of vanilla sugar.

For assembly:

  • 1/2 kg of thin dough sheets
  • Spread the poppy seed mixture over each sheet.
  • Once done, cut into pieces and bake.

For the syrup:

  • 1 1/2 cups of water
  • 2 cups of sugar
  • A bit of lemon juice

Pour the syrup over the baked baklava.

Note: Poppy seed baklava can also be made using water instead of milk for a vegan version.

Walnut Strudel

Dough:

  • 750 g of flour
  • 1 egg yolk
  • A bit of lukewarm water
  • A pinch of salt

Filling:

  • Walnuts
  • Powdered sugar
  • Sour cream (as desired)

Instructions:

  1. Knead the dough and let it rest briefly.
  2. Grind or chop the walnuts and mix them with sugar.
  3. Roll out the dough, spread sour cream over it, and sprinkle with walnuts.
  4. Roll it up like a strudel and bake.
