Tired of boring baked fish? Meet the bold, nutty classic you didn’t know you needed.
This old-school trout dish drenched in a garlicky walnut sauce is the kind of comfort food that hits hard. Crisped to perfection, then bathed in a rich, golden sauce—this is what rustic dining dreams are made of. Simple, and unforgettable.

Ingredients:

  • 2.2 lbs trout (whole or fillets)
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour (for dredging)
  • 9 oz walnuts, finely chopped or ground
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tablespoons vinegar
  • 2 cups warm water
  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • Salt to taste

Instructions:
Clean the trout and cut into pieces about 2.5 inches long. Season with salt. Dredge each piece in flour and fry in hot oil until golden and crispy. Transfer the fried trout into a serving dish.

In a separate pan, heat 1/2 cup of oil. Add 2 tablespoons of flour and stir until lightly browned. Stir in the ground walnuts and cook until the mixture turns golden. Gradually add the warm water, vinegar, and minced garlic while stirring to avoid lumps. Add more water if needed to reach a pourable consistency. Let the sauce simmer briefly.

Pour the hot walnut sauce over the fried trout and serve warm.

This dish pairs beautifully with crusty bread or boiled potatoes.
