Mozartkugeln are among the most popular confections, and the best part is that you can easily make them at home with this simple yet detailed recipe. Originally created in 1890 by pastry chef Paul Fürst, these treats were named after the renowned composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Known for their exquisite taste, Mozartkugeln are often considered a luxurious indulgence—but with a bit of effort, you can recreate their magic in your own kitchen.
Ingredients
- 150 g marzipan
- 50 g finely chopped pistachios
- 80 g finely chopped hazelnuts
- 50 g melted butter
- 2 tablespoons of nougat cream
Instructions
Combine the hazelnuts, nougat cream, and melted butter in a bowl. Mix until smooth, then place the mixture in the refrigerator to firm up.
Mix 75 g of marzipan with the chopped pistachios until well combined. Roll this mixture into small balls, approximately 1 cm in diameter.
Use the remaining 75 g of marzipan to form flat discs large enough to wrap around the pistachio balls. Carefully cover each ball, ensuring a smooth surface.
Take the chilled nougat mixture and flatten it into discs using your fingers. Wrap each marzipan-covered ball with the nougat layer, pressing gently to shape.
Place the prepared balls in the refrigerator to firm up while you melt the chocolate.
Melt your favorite chocolate (milk or dark) and dip each ball to coat completely. Let any excess chocolate drip off before placing them on parchment paper.
Return the chocolate-coated Mozartkugeln to the refrigerator and allow them to set for at least one hour.
Homemade Mozartkugeln are not only delicious but also make for an impressive gift or a treat for special occasions. Once you’ve mastered this recipe, you’ll never feel the need to buy the store-bought version again!
