Homemade caramels are a perfect treat for snacking at home or as a delightful gift for hosts. With just a few ingredients, you can create rich, buttery candies that melt in your mouth.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1⅔ cups heavy cream (14 oz)
- ½ cup unsalted butter
Instructions:
- Combine all ingredients in a medium-sized saucepan. Heat over high heat, stirring constantly to prevent burning, until the mixture begins to boil.
- Once the mixture is smooth and boiling, reduce heat slightly and continue to stir for about 10 minutes.
- To test the caramel’s readiness, drop a small amount into a glass of cold water. If it solidifies immediately, the caramel is ready.
- Pour the mixture into a lightly greased baking dish. Allow it to cool completely for several hours or until firm enough to cut or break apart.
- Cut into even squares or break into rustic pieces. Store in an airtight container.
