Homemade caramels are a perfect treat for snacking at home or as a delightful gift for hosts. With just a few ingredients, you can create rich, buttery candies that melt in your mouth.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1⅔ cups heavy cream (14 oz)
  • ½ cup unsalted butter

Instructions:

  1. Combine all ingredients in a medium-sized saucepan. Heat over high heat, stirring constantly to prevent burning, until the mixture begins to boil.
  2. Once the mixture is smooth and boiling, reduce heat slightly and continue to stir for about 10 minutes.
  3. To test the caramel’s readiness, drop a small amount into a glass of cold water. If it solidifies immediately, the caramel is ready.
  4. Pour the mixture into a lightly greased baking dish. Allow it to cool completely for several hours or until firm enough to cut or break apart.
  5. Cut into even squares or break into rustic pieces. Store in an airtight container.
