Honey Heart Cookies bring together the perfect combination of warm spices, sweet jam, and rich dark chocolate. These delightful cookies are simple to prepare and perfect for celebrations or as a sweet treat during fasting periods.
Ingredients:
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup sugar
- 1½ teaspoons cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon ground cloves or nutmeg (optional, for extra warmth)
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 cup water
- 4 heaping tablespoons tart fruit jam (such as raspberry or sour cherry)
- ½ cup melted dark chocolate (fasting-friendly, dairy-free)
- Optional topping: finely chopped nuts or shredded coconut
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cinnamon, ground cloves (if using), and baking soda.
- Add water and jam to the dry ingredients and mix until smooth. The dough should be sticky but manageable.
- Roll out the dough on a floured surface to about ¼ inch thickness. Use a heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut out cookies.
- Arrange the cookies on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake for 10–12 minutes or until golden brown.
- While still warm, brush a thin layer of jam on top of each cookie.
- Once the cookies cool, dip them completely in melted dark chocolate. For added flair, sprinkle chopped nuts or shredded coconut over the glaze before it sets.
- Allow the chocolate to cool and harden before serving.
