There’s nothing like the aroma of freshly baked homemade pretzels wafting through your kitchen! These soft and fluffy pretzels are perfect for any occasion. Whether you’re enjoying them fresh and warm, or reheating them later, they’re always a treat. Plus, they pair beautifully with your favorite dips! The best part? They’re easy to make and require only a few simple ingredients.
Ingredients:
- 500 ml warm water
- 40 g fresh yeast
- 1 tbsp salt
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 100 ml vegetable oil
- 1 kg all-purpose flour
For the salty topping:
- 200 ml water
- 7 tbsp flour
- 1 tbsp salt
Instructions:
- In warm water, dissolve the crumbled yeast and sugar. Stir well until fully combined.
- Add half of the flour, half of the oil, and the salt. Mix everything together until the dough is smooth with no lumps.
- Gradually add the rest of the flour, and knead until the dough is smooth and medium-soft. It should not be too sticky or too firm—just right for easy shaping.
- Grease your work surface with a little oil, then divide the dough into approximately 120g portions and roll them into balls. Place them on the oiled surface, coat them with more oil, cover with plastic wrap, and let them rest for 20 minutes.
- After resting, roll each ball into a long strip about 80 cm long. Form the classic pretzel shape by tying the ends together and twisting them into a knot. Flip the knot so the seam is facing down.
- While the pretzels bake, prepare the salty topping by mixing the water, flour, and salt until smooth but slightly runny, like yogurt.
- Place the pretzels on a baking sheet and bake until nearly done, then brush with the salty topping and return to the oven to finish baking.
These homemade pretzels are so delicious and fun to make. With a perfect balance of fluffiness and a lightly crispy exterior, you’ll want to make them again and again!
