Bring the holidays to life with a homemade Gingerbread House! Soft, spiced gingerbread pieces come together to form a charming house that you can decorate with icing, colorful candies, almonds, and sugar balls—a perfect festive activity for the whole family.
Ingredients (for 2 batches of traditional gingerbread dough):
For decorating:
- White icing
- Colorful cookies
- Flat candies in various colors
- Whole almonds
- Colored sugar balls
- Powdered sugar for dusting
Instructions:
- Roll the prepared and chilled dough to ¼ inch thickness (about 6 mm).
- Cut two triangles for the front and back of the house and two rectangles (5.7 x 7.6 inches / 14.5 x 19.2 cm) for the roof. Prick the front pieces with a fork to prevent puffing.
- Cut squares for windows and doors directly into the front and back pieces. From leftover dough, cut shapes for fences, trees, and optional chimney or base.
- Preheat the oven to 375°F (195°C) and bake all pieces until firm and lightly golden. Let cool completely.
- Assemble the house by gluing pieces together with icing. Start with the walls, let the icing set, then attach the roof.
- Decorate with icing, add candies, almonds, and sugar balls. Dust lightly with powdered sugar for a snowy effect.
