Crispy Olive Breadsticks
Ingredients:
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 packet (2¼ teaspoons) dry yeast
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 cup pitted olives, sliced
- Warm water (enough to form a soft dough)
Instructions:
- In a large bowl, combine flour, dry yeast, salt, and sugar. Gradually add warm water and knead into a soft dough—not too firm.
- Preheat your oven to the highest temperature setting.
- Transfer dough to a floured surface and knead briefly. Roll into a rectangle and cut into 6 equal strips.
- Shape each strip into a breadstick. Press olive slices gently into the dough so they are tucked in. Add extra olives on top if desired.
- Place the breadsticks on a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Brush lightly with water using a pastry brush to remove excess flour.
- Place a small oven-safe dish of water on the bottom rack of the oven—this creates steam and keeps the breadsticks crispy.
- Bake for about 30 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm!
