Crispy Olive Breadsticks

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2¼ teaspoons) dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 cup pitted olives, sliced
  • Warm water (enough to form a soft dough)

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, combine flour, dry yeast, salt, and sugar. Gradually add warm water and knead into a soft dough—not too firm.
  2. Preheat your oven to the highest temperature setting.
  3. Transfer dough to a floured surface and knead briefly. Roll into a rectangle and cut into 6 equal strips.
  4. Shape each strip into a breadstick. Press olive slices gently into the dough so they are tucked in. Add extra olives on top if desired.
  5. Place the breadsticks on a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Brush lightly with water using a pastry brush to remove excess flour.
  6. Place a small oven-safe dish of water on the bottom rack of the oven—this creates steam and keeps the breadsticks crispy.
