Cream slices are a dessert made with layers of puff pastry and a rich, creamy custard filling. The combination of crisp pastry and smooth, thick cream makes this treat irresistibly delicious.
Ingredients:
- 9 eggs
- 9 tablespoons sugar
- 9 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 8 tablespoons cornstarch
- 3 packets vanilla sugar
- 5 tablespoons powdered sugar
- 500g frozen puff pastry
- Whipping cream
Preparation:
- Roll out the puff pastry to the size of the baking pan you’ll use for the cake. Bake at 220°C (428°F) until golden brown.
- Separate the egg yolks from the egg whites. In a bowl, mix the yolks with sugar, flour, cornstarch, and 3 deciliters of milk. Stir well to avoid lumps.
- Bring the remaining milk to a boil and gradually stir in the yolk mixture. Cook for about 5 minutes over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the cream thickens. Remove from heat and add vanilla sugar.
- Whip the egg whites into stiff peaks, gradually adding powdered sugar. Gently fold the whipped egg whites into the hot cream.
- Place one sheet of puff pastry at the bottom of the pan, pour the cream over it, and spread evenly. Add a layer of whipped cream on top and finish with the second sheet of puff pastry, cut into squares the size of the cream slices.
- Chill thoroughly before serving.
