As December approaches and the holiday lights begin to sparkle, there’s nothing cozier than baking a rich, creamy dessert that fills the home with warmth. This Chestnut Velvet Holiday Cake brings together smooth chestnut cream, soft chocolate layers, and a glossy chocolate finish—perfect for winter gatherings or a festive family dinner. It’s a classic seasonal treat with a delicate, luxurious twist that always impresses.

Ingredients

For the Cake Base

  • 1 chocolate cake layer (store-bought or homemade)
  • A splash of milk
  • A splash of rum

For the Cream

  • 1 lb chestnut purée (450 g)
  • 6 tablespoons heavy cream
  • 7 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • A little lemon juice, to taste
  • A splash of rum, optional

For Coating & Decorations

  • 7 oz marzipan (200 g)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar, sifted
  • Chocolate glaze (your preferred kind)

Instructions

  1. Make the chestnut filling:
In a bowl, mix the chestnut purée with the heavy cream and powdered sugar. Add just enough lemon juice to create a pleasant, balanced flavor.
If the mixture seems too thick, you can loosen it with warm sweetened milk or a little more cream.
Add a small splash of rum, if you like.
  2. Prepare the cake layers:
Split your chocolate cake layer into two pieces. Lightly brush each half with a mixture of rum and milk.
  3. Assemble the cake:
Spread a generous amount of chestnut cream over the bottom layer. Place the second layer on top and coat the entire cake with the remaining cream.
  4. Make the marzipan topping:
Knead the marzipan with powdered sugar until smooth. Roll it out and cover the top or entire cake, depending on the look you want.
  5. Finish with glaze and decoration:
Pour chocolate glaze over the cake.
Use leftover marzipan to shape small decorative pieces (leaves, stars, animals—your choice) and arrange them on top.
