These “Surprise” chicken cutlets live up to their name! Tender chicken breasts are seared, then topped with smoky ham and melted smoked cheese, finished with a creamy sour cream drizzle. It’s a fast, flavorful dish that’s perfect with steamed vegetables or a crisp green salad—an easy dinner with a gourmet twist.
Ingredients:
- 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken breasts, sliced into cutlets
- 7 oz smoked ham, thinly sliced
- 7 oz smoked cheese (like smoked provolone or gouda), sliced
- ¾ cup sour cream
- Salt, to taste
- All-purpose seasoning or bouillon powder (optional), to taste
Instructions:
- Season the chicken cutlets with salt and a pinch of seasoning blend if using.
- Heat a non-stick skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat. Place the cutlets in the hot pan.
- When the bottom side is golden, flip the cutlets. Immediately top each with a slice of smoked ham and then a slice of smoked cheese. Cover the pan and let it cook for 5–7 minutes, until the cheese melts.
- Pour the sour cream evenly over the cutlets, turn off the heat, and let the sauce warm gently in the residual heat for a couple of minutes.
- Carefully spoon off any excess fat if needed.
- Serve warm with steamed vegetables or a fresh green salad.
