The yeast used in nutrition originates from the fungus Saccaromyceti cerevisiae. It is called brewer’s yeast because before its medicinal properties were known, it was used only for the production of beer.

Today it is known that brewer’s yeast contains many substances useful for the body. It is rich in proteins, carbohydrates, mineral salts, and vitamins that are associated with the possibility of preventing anemia, strengthening the body’s natural defenses and reducing the risk of premature birth. It contains four important elements:

  • selenium: against disorders caused by old age;
  • chromium: for the prevention of diabetes and heart attacks;
  • glutamine: promotes the elimination of harmful substances;
  • nucleic acids: they maintain the health of body cells.

However, the most important feature is that dry brewer’s yeast contains large amounts of B vitamins that regulate the nervous system, affect the health of the liver and eyes, are necessary during the growth phase and help the heart to function well.
There is a document by Ebers from 1555 BC in which it is mentioned that “mud” from beer preserves physical health. In the sixteenth century, doctors defined dry brewer’s yeast as a “divine medicine”.

Dry brewer’s yeast is not a food, it cannot replace a meal, but it is an ideal supplement that can compensate for any nutritional deficiencies. It is especially suitable for diets with little vitamins and proteins.

Due to the method of drying and preservation, use liquid or powdered yeast mixed with water, because then the vitamin composition is not changed and it retains all health effectiveness.
It is recommended during reductive diets or during a period in which no eggs, milk, cheese, or meat are eaten. It is optimal for vegetarian food.

Some doctors believe that only dry brewer’s yeast is enough to eliminate disturbances caused by cirrhosis or other liver diseases.

It is useful in the prevention of arteriosclerosis, so it is recommended for elderly people.

Dry brewer’s yeast is a natural antibiotic – it controls bacteria that could be harmful to the body (staphylococcus, salmonella), and at the same time stimulates the effect of bacteria useful for the good functioning of the intestines.
Gynecologists recommend it during pregnancy because it has preventive properties for anemia, reduces the risk of early delivery and promotes the development and health of the future baby.
