When it comes to comfort food, Baked Schnitzels with Cheese are an absolute winner. This dish is perfect for those who love a crispy, golden schnitzel topped with the creamy, melty goodness of cheese, paired with the earthy flavor of fresh mushrooms.
Ingredients:
- Beef schnitzels (about 1 lb or 450 g)
- 1 cup shredded cheese (or any semi-soft cheese like mozzarella or provolone)
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour (for dredging)
- 2 large eggs
- Fresh mushrooms (about 1 cup, sliced)
- Salt, pepper, and vegetable seasoning (optional)
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1/4 cup milk
- A small amount of oil for greasing
Instructions:
- Tenderize the beef schnitzels to make them slightly thinner. Sprinkle each schnitzel with a bit of vegetable seasoning (optional).
- Dredge the schnitzels in flour, then dip them in beaten eggs, and coat with finely grated cheese.
- Arrange the schnitzels in a greased oven-safe dish, layering them as follows: schnitzels first, then a layer of coarsely grated mushrooms. Repeat this layering process until the schnitzels are used up, finishing with a layer of mushrooms on top.
- Lightly drizzle with oil and add about 1/4 cup warm water (half of a small cup).
- Bake in the oven at 400°F (200°C) for about 40 minutes.
- In the last 5 minutes, mix the remaining eggs with a bit of sour cream or milk, and pour this mixture over the top. Let it bake for an additional 5 minutes.
- Once done, serve hot and enjoy!
This dish is a savory and cheesy delight, perfect for any occasion.
