Soft, fluffy, and buttery, these jam-filled sweet rolls are the perfect homemade treat. Lightly enriched dough is wrapped around sweet fruit jam, baked until golden, and finished with a generous dusting of powdered sugar. They’re simple, comforting, and taste like something straight from a bakery—perfect for breakfast, dessert, or a cozy snack with coffee or tea.
Ingredients
Dough:
- 4 cups all-purpose flour (500 g)
- 1/4 cup sugar (50 g)
- 1 packet active dry yeast (2 1/4 tsp / 7 g) or 1/2 fresh yeast cube (~20 g)
- 1/2 cup warm milk (120 ml)
- 1/2 cup warm water (120 ml)
- 1 large egg
- 2 egg yolks
- Zest of 1 lemon
- 6 tablespoons butter, melted (80–100 g)
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
Filling & topping:
- Thick fruit jam (plum, apricot, or raspberry)
- Powdered sugar, for dusting
Instructions
- Warm milk and water until lukewarm. Dissolve yeast with a little sugar and warm milk. Let sit until foamy (10 minutes).
- In a large bowl, combine flour, salt, sugar, and lemon zest.
- Add egg, egg yolks, yeast mixture, and liquids.
- Knead into a smooth, elastic dough (about 10 minutes).
- Cover and let rise for 45 minutes until doubled.
- Roll dough into a rectangle about 1 cm thick (1/2 inch).
- Cut into 16 squares. Place a spoon of jam in the center of each.
- Fold edges and shape into small balls.
- Dip each ball in melted butter and arrange in a baking pan.
- Let rise again for 30 minutes.
- Bake at 350°F (180°C) for 25–30 minutes until golden.
- Cool slightly and dust generously with powdered sugar.
