A rich, modern chocolate cake with a soft, moist crumb and deep cocoa flavor. This version is slightly updated for a more indulgent, bakery-style result—perfect for celebrations or a cozy dessert at home. The texture is tender, the flavor bold, and the finish glossy with chocolate.

Ingredients:

For the Cake:

  • 2 large eggs
  • 2/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips

For the Cream:

For the Topping:

  • 4 oz melted dark chocolate
  • 2 tablespoons heavy cream (for smooth glaze)

Instructions:

Preheat the oven to 400°F. Line a round cake pan with parchment paper and lightly grease the sides.

In one bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

In another bowl, beat eggs and sugar until light and slightly fluffy. Add oil and vanilla, mixing until smooth.

In a cup, combine milk and vinegar and let it sit briefly to create a light buttermilk effect.

Gradually combine all mixtures—dry ingredients, egg mixture, and milk—mixing until smooth and slightly runny. Fold in chocolate chips if using.

Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for about 30 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.

Let the cake cool completely, then cut it into two even layers.

Prepare the cream by whipping butter until smooth, then slowly adding condensed milk and vanilla. Mix until creamy and light. Add cocoa if you want a chocolate version.

Spread the cream between the layers and lightly over the top.

Finish by pouring melted chocolate mixed with cream over the cake, letting it drip naturally down the sides.

Let it set slightly before slicing.
