Melon, a member of the cucumber family, is a summertime favorite, appearing from mid to late summer. Its soft, juicy flesh and sweet aroma make it a staple in fruit salads and refreshing snacks. Whether yellowish or green-skinned, melon is best enjoyed fully ripe and fresh.
What makes melon especially valuable is its nutritional profile. It’s low in calories — just 24 kcal per 100g — and full of easily digestible sugars, beta-carotene, and vitamin C. In fact, 100g of melon can contain up to 2000 micrograms of beta-carotene, a powerful antioxidant that supports immunity and skin health.
Important note for diabetics: Because of its natural sugar content, melon is not recommended for individuals with diabetes or high triglyceride levels.
On the mineral side, melon shines with a high potassium content and low sodium, making it a natural diuretic that helps reduce inflammation. It’s especially beneficial for those dealing with conditions like gout, rheumatism, or kidney and bladder inflammation.
