Muffins are a popular baked good that traces its roots to the French term “moufflet,” meaning soft, airy bread. The basic ingredients for muffins are simple—flour, sugar, eggs, and a liquid such as milk or yogurt. But what sets muffins apart is their adaptability; you can customize them with a wide range of ingredients, from fruits and chocolate to nuts and spices. For an extra touch, you can add toppings like caramel, melted chocolate, or a light dusting of powdered sugar.

To prepare muffins, begin by mixing your dry ingredients—such as flour and sugar—in one bowl. In another bowl, whisk together the wet ingredients, like eggs and your chosen liquid. Combine the two mixtures gently, being careful not to overmix the batter. It’s okay if the batter is a little lumpy; this will ensure the muffins come out light and airy once baked.

Muffins are typically baked in individual molds, often lined with paper cups for easy cleanup and an attractive look. They usually bake in around 20 minutes, offering a quick and tasty treat at any time of the day.

Chocolate Hazelnut Muffins

Ingredients:

  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup plain yogurt
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 cup chocolate-hazelnut spread (like Nutella)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar (adjust for sweetness)
  • 2 tablespoons fruit jam (raspberry or strawberry works well)
  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup chopped hazelnuts (optional for extra crunch)

Preparation:

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, yogurt, and oil until well combined.
  2. Stir in the flour, baking powder, and brown sugar until the mixture is smooth.
  3. Add the chocolate-hazelnut spread and fruit jam, and gently fold them into the batter. If desired, fold in chopped hazelnuts for added texture.
  4. Preheat the oven to 375°F. Grease the muffin tins or line them with paper liners.
  5. Spoon the batter into the muffin tins, filling each about two-thirds full.
  6. Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Allow the muffins to cool slightly before serving.

Tip: These muffins are perfect for breakfast, a snack, or even dessert when paired with a hot beverage.
