How Do You Store Jam in a Jar?
Properly storing jam ensures freshness, flavor, and food safety. Here’s a clear step-by-step:

Choose Quality Fruit
Pick ripe, undamaged fruit. Wash under cold water, let drain, and trim any stems or bruised parts before cooking.

Sterilize Jars and Lids
Wash jars thoroughly, then place them upside down in an oven heated to ~200–212°F (90–100°C) for about 15–20 minutes. Boil lids and bands separately and let everything air-dry before use.

Fill While Jam Is Hot
Immediately transfer the hot jam into the warmed jars, leaving roughly ¼ inch (½cm) of headspace. Wipe the jar rims to ensure a clean seal. Close the jars tightly while still hot.

Seal and Cool Properly
There are two effective methods:

Water-bath method: Submerge filled jars in boiling water for about 10 minutes. Remove and let cool at room temperature until lids “pop” indicating a vacuum seal.

Oven method: Keep filled jars in a 200°F oven for around 60 minutes, then turn off the heat and let them cool completely inside the oven.

Store in Ideal Conditions
Keep sealed jars in a cool, dry, and dark place like a pantry or basement. Properly stored jam can last up to a year. Avoid storing in places with fluctuating temperatures or humidity, like balconies or near light.
