Recent research has revealed that eating a handful of nuts every day may significantly lower the risk of developing dementia. The study, which involved more than 50,000 participants, found that individuals over 60 who consumed up to 30 grams of nuts daily experienced a 16% lower risk of dementia. Interestingly, the risk reduction increased to 17% for those who ate unsalted nuts.

However, the findings were only significant for those who were not obese, had a healthy sleep routine, and didn’t smoke or drink alcohol. For individuals with other risk factors, such as muscle weakness or loneliness, the study found no noticeable correlation.

Though the research is still ongoing, previous studies suggest that nuts, rich in antioxidants and essential nutrients, may have a positive impact on brain health.

This study tracked participants for seven years, providing valuable insights into how diet could play a role in preventing dementia. Future research may continue to uncover how specific foods can reduce the risks associated with cognitive decline.
