A fun twist on a classic picnic staple, this spicy tuna salad uses hummus to replace some of the mayo which makes it creamy, flavorful, and adds an extra boost of protein.

Ingredients

  • ▢2 (6-ounce) cans albacore tuna, preferably no salt added
  • ▢¼ cup hummus any variety
  • ▢2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • ▢1 teaspoon harissa sauce/paste
  • ▢1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
  • ▢½ teaspoon kosher or fine sea salt
  • ▢½ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • ▢½ teaspoon cayenne pepper optional
  • ▢½ cup grated carrot
  • ▢¼ cup minced shallot

Instructions

  • ▢Drain the tuna and transfer to a mixing bowl. Break up the fish with a fork and then add the hummus, mayonnaise, harissa, lemon juice, and spices. Stir to combine. Fold in the carrot and shallot.
  • ▢Transfer to an airtight container or assemble into sandwiches. (Salad can be made up to 1 day ahead of time. Sandwiches should be enjoyed the same day.)
